The Sixteen return to Leeds Cathedral
On the 8th and 9th of November we were delighted to welcome back to Leeds Cathedral members of international chamber choir The Sixteen and their conductor Harry Christophers. As part of The Sixteen Ignite, a new project launched with the support of The Vinehill Trust and Michael Watt, philanthropist and owner of Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club, singers from The Sixteen joined the Senior Boys, Senior Girls and Schools Scholars of Leeds Cathedral to rehearse and perform a concert including Fauré’s Requiem.

The young singers from Leeds Cathedral enjoyed workshops and sectional rehearsals with singers from The Sixteen. A particular highlight for some of the older Cathedral singers was learning to work as a consort, a small group of singers without a conductor, a very high level of skill for teenage singers. They were so successful that they performed their piece without a conductor in the concert.
Offering opportunities of this quality to young singers in the Diocese of Leeds is one of the many things that makes the Diocese of Leeds Schools Singing Programme extraordinary.
