New Choral Director appointed for Wakefield and Pontefract
Choral Director, Charlotte Kitson writes:
To many I might be a familiar face, as this is not the first time I have been employed by the Music Department. I graduated in 2011 from the University of Birmingham with a First Class Honours degree in Music, and was shortly after appointed as Choral Director for Bradford in the Schools’ Singing Programme. Highlights of my time in the role include founding the Bradford Catholic Junior Choir, and much success with my school choirs at the Skipton Festival of Music.
I left the Music Department in 2014 to pursue a PGCE in Secondary Music at Leeds Trinity University, and have since worked as a Teacher of Music and RE at St. Bede’s and St. Joseph’s Catholic College in Bradford, completing my NQT induction and Catholic Certificate in Religious Studies (CCRS) in July 2015. However, I first became involved with the Music Department when I joined the Cathedral Girls’ Choir at the age of 16, later becoming a Choral Scholar at Leeds and then at St. Chad’s Cathedral in Birmingham. A former member of Yorkshire Bach Choir, Rodolfus Choir, the National Youth Choir of Great Britain, I was recently honoured to sing semi-chorus at the premiere of Paul Spicer’s commemorative work for the First World War, Unfinished Remembering, at Birmingham Symphony Hall.
As I grew up in Wakefield, I am particularly excited to work on this new branch of the Schools’ Singing Programme, enriching the musical and spiritual lives of more young people in our Diocese.
