The Diocese of Leeds has the largest church programme of choral music for young people in the United Kingdom.
In total it maintains 55 choirs comprising some 2800 children meeting weekly. There are 43 school choirs, five boys' choirs, five girls' choirs, three mixed children’s choirs, two youth choirs, three university choirs, a choir school and an adult choir. more »
In January Choral Director Charlotte Kitson started work with the primary schools in the Bishop Konstant Catholic Academy Trust - in less than three months she has swept the board with choirs from these schools at the Rothwell Festival. The Diocese was represented by nearly 300 children in twelve choirs, with groups from Holy Family and St Michael's (Pontefract), Immaculate Heart of Mary (Leeds), Sacred Heart (Hemsworth), St. Benedict's (Garforth), St. John the Baptist (Normanton), St. Joseph's (Castleford) and St. Joseph's (Moorthorpe). All of the Singing Programme choirs were placed in the top three in each class, with 1st places for Immaculate Heart, St. Benedict's Class 4 and St. Benedict's Key Stage 2 Choir. The adjudicator was Marilynne Davies.
The Diocese of Leeds Music Department is home to the largest church-based music programme for young people in the UK. Its educational programmes are spread across West Yorkshire, and allow all who are involved to develop their musicianship, improve self-confidence and build lasting friendships.
Bradford Catholic Girls' Choir - part of the Diocese's Schools Singing Programme and supported by St. Bede's and St. Joseph's - broadcast live on Radio 4 earlier this week. The choir are regularly invited to sing for the BBC, and are one of only a handful of youth choirs to enjoy this privilege.

The Huddersfield Girls’ Choir are back in Yorkshire after a fabulous tour to Newcastle and Hexham. They stayed for three days during which they sang at Hexham Abbey and St Mary’s Cathedral, Newcastle as well as enjoying a fun-filled day exploring Hexham.
